vintage pink Little Folks Gifts, NYC Christening Set with Accessories
from the
1950's in the original gift box.
This is a
5 piece christening set that includes: bonnet with
ribbon ties, slip, dress, and over-dress jacket with ribbon ties, pink & white Buster Brown shoes and a knitted or
crocheted pink blanket
. I was unable to find a size on any of the items included in this set but it appears to be for a very young baby probably less than 6 months. The bonnet, dress and over-dress jacket is nylon with lots of delicate ecru lace and pink satin ribbons. The slip is soft cotton with scalloped edge trim and a small embroidered emblem on front bottom hem. The 38" x 40" blanket has a delicate detailed stitch pattern with a 7" lace look border. The blanket has stains on one corner and some broken threads that have caused some holes in the lace (see photo #s 11 & 12). The slip is about 5" from shoulder edge to shoulder edge and 13.5" long. The dress measures 8" from top edge to edge of capped sleeve and 15" long. It closes with 2 snap fasteners on the back. There is one small area, less than 1 inch where the nylon has pulled loose from the lace top bodice near the left sleeve. The lined lace and nylon jacket is about 9" from shoulder to shoulder and 15.75" long. It has been hand repaired on the back bodice seam where the nylon attaches to the bodice. There is no size on the Buster Brown shoes but they are 4" long. Although there are no tags remaining on any of the items, I reviewed Little Folks online and believe the set should wash nicely by hand but I have never laundered or pressed. This set was given to me at least 35 years ago by an elderly lady who I often took grocery shopping or ran errands for her. She knew I loved vintage items and couldn't have given me anything I would have liked better. This set is too fragile from age to be used for an actual christening but would dress a vintage doll beautifully. I actually never did display it but took it out of the box and admired it or showed it to friends occasionally. The box has frayed corners and obvious signs of age and storage.
