Salewa Crow GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's – Used a bit –US 12 EUR 46.
I use these about seven or eight times and they have scratches and scuffs from traveling through scree and talus, but otherwise they are in great condition. There's only a tiny bit of wear on the soles and the heels.
I have a wide forefoot and an odd heel so I had our local neighborhood boot fitter (Jim Mates – who is awesome!) do a few tweaks but they didn't make much of a difference. He tried stretching out the heel cup, ground a bit of the upper exterior heel cup off, and snipped one of the exterior steel wires in order to try to increase the heel cup size. Realistically, I don't think any of these things made much of a difference and I don't think the impacted the durability of the boot. From what I can tell, the wire from the laces to the upper part of the heel cup is largely cosmetic.
The boots are really well made and I'm impressed by Salewa's manufacturing. I'm bummed I had a go with the brand whose boots are not quite as well-made and not as light, but have wider forefeet and a different heel cup design. They also did appear to be very waterproof and the soul is laterally stiff and edges really well. This is a great mountaineering and heavy backpacking boot.
